Finding Type

The STOP is san serif. It is used on the school computers trying to tell people do not destroy it because it is property of the department of education. I find it appropriate for its purpose because the message is simple and it is communicates the message very well.

The UNITED STATES POSTAL SERVICE is san serif and a little bit of decorative because of the way the letter A is. This typeface was printed on the United States Postal Service cars. It is used to help identify the car and also advertise to the people. The typeface is use is appropriate for its purpose because for someone walking on the street, it is very easy to read but with the uniqueness of the letter A is makes the name special.
The word RECYCLING is san serif and it is printed on the recycling trash can. This typeface is appropriate for its purpose because the message is simple and within the word. When someone is in a rush, no one is going to spend time to analyze the word is it was all fancy and difficult to read so making it simple can help communicate the message better.
GOING TO THE AIR? is simple san serif and it is the advertisement for the car service. This advertisement is placed on the phone booth. This type is appropriate for its purpose because no one really stops on the street to read an advertisement. Being that is is on the street, it needs to be simple so the audience can receive the message in a matter of seconds.

This typeface is slab serif and modern. It is printed onto the school laptops to help identify the difference from other people's personal laptops. The typeface is appropriate for its purpose because it does not need to be simple because people can take their time when looking at these worlds. Also it added a sense of importance when the typeface is not too simple but still easy to read.

REVOLUTION EYES is a phrase in front of a glasses store. The typeface is decorative and slab serif. It is appropriate for its purpose because it is a glasses store so the typeface should be interesting to the eye but also easy to read.

SGE: Student Government and Ethics Logo Research

SGE is composed of a total of five branches; Student Store Board, Student Trustee Committee, Environmental Committee, Student Life Committee and Fairness & Wellness Committee. There is a total of 20 - 30 members that serve for two year terms. There are no specific positions in each committee and everyone is equal. The purpose of SGE is to allow the students to have a voice in their school community and organize different events and impose different rules to make the school community better.

Each committee has a different goal. The Environmental Committee is to help make the school eco-clean and green. Fairness and Wellness Committee is meant to protect the student's rights and the honor code. The purpose of the Student Life Committee is to organize events around the school. The School Store Board is the management branch of SGE that helps run the school store. The Student Trustee Committee gives advice with hiring teachers and input opinions on usage of money, raising money, and bring awareness to the school.

To gather more information, I asked a member of the Environmental committee to help me answer some questions. The member told me that the SGE is about representing the student body and its purpose is to allow students to have a voice in the school. Our principle McEvoy is the representation of the club. The theme of SGE is law. There are students from all grades and everyone is very nice to each other. Something that the member enjoys a lot about the club is the free food. Also, she likes how it allows the students to have a voice. Her idea for the logo would to have a logo that represents all five branches and try to show that through the logo.

Look Out For Logos

Longchamp is one of the brands that I own. I really like this logo because of how you can see name of the brand in the logo. The logo is a horse rider. Horses are for traveling long distances in the past and how it horse is lunging. As for the champ part, champ is short champion like the winner of the long distance race.

This is the AA Bridge logo by George Bokhua. I think logo is well designed because it has the AA in the logo and although it seem like letterwork at first, but can also be a brandmark because it has a bridge incorporated into the logo. However, on thing that I dislike about this logo is how it could be misunderstood for the letter M.

Portrait Transformation

Before

After

My concept is to not hurt the environment and Earth in general. I tried to show that by having a person's hand telling people to stop. Her hair is also made of roses to show that we are part of nature and Earth so we shouldn't hurt it. Earth is on fire to show the harm we have already done to it and on the right side, there are flowers in black and white and most of them are dying.

Instructions:
1.     Open the file of the person.
2.     Use the spot healing tool to clear the face.
3.     Open the file of the black rose flower and use to clone tool to copy it and clone onto the person’s   hair on new layer.
4.     Open the planet background file.
5.     Select all the area around the person and inverse the selection.
6.     Copy the person and paste on the planet background file.
7.     Do the same with the flower clone layer.
8.     Use transformation tool to resize and reposition the person and flower hair on the background file.
9.     Filter the background with distort glass.
10. Use the curve to brighten half of the image.
11. Group the person and flower hair into one file and change the opacity of the group.
12. Open the group file and go through the layers, using the easer tool to clean up the edges.
13. Open new files of dead black and white flowers and use the clone tool to clone onto my working file.
14. Select the background image on my working file and change the vibrancy of the image.

Make My Own Gif Project

My concept is that cake taste good. I like eating cake and I like making it as well. That's why I chose my concept to that about a person enjoying cake.

What was the most frustrating aspect of the program and/or project?
Something that frustrated me was creating each layer. It was not hard to duplicate each layer and add stuff to it but when i want to move it, I have to draw a whole new part and change that. It was very hard to draw it and make it flow at the same time.

After completing the project, which tools do you feel most confident in using?
I am confident in using the paint bucket tool, the eye dropper and the selection tools. I used the eye dropper many times in order to repeat certain colors like the cake. After selecting the color, I was able to use the paint bucket to color it in. I am not confident with the selection tool because I used the selection tool to draw the plate and then subtract the inside to make my plate with the rim.

Which tool do you wish you were better at using?
I would want to get better that the paint brush tool and use it to draw better strokes because when I draw, my hand tend to shake so it does not come out as straight. For example, I used the brush to draw the fork and at times, my fork was not straight but curved like a squiggly line.

What would you like to create next with photoshop?
Next, I want to try and edit photos. I want to learn how to combine photos and make who separate photos blend together.

Marian Bantjes

MARIAN BANTJES

www.bantjes.com
The designer I chose is Marian Bantjes. She is currently still alive. She first started her career as a book typesetter in 1984. Ten years later, she opened her own design firm. Now she stays with Canada but she works with magazines and people from all over the world.
One of her major influences would be the 14th–18th century calligraphy. It was also the start of her career as a designer. She was also greatly inspired by the Art and Crafts movement. One aspect of the movement was connecting with nature. In certain work, she tends to use actual living flowers and petals to create words and other designs. One example would be Sorrow. It was made up of many flowers and plants in which she organized to spell the world sorrow. Another example would be her design, I Want it All. She created the letters out of peonies. Old lace also inspired her to create other handcraft objects like the lace clock called the Aiga/DC Clock. Although her handcrafts were more for visual than function, it still works. Bantjes also created other high quality crafts such as the snowflake pendants that were sold for thousands of dollars.
The Aiga/DC Clock may have been the inspiration to the 2013 Old Lace Inspired Home Decorating Concepts shown on decoradvisor.com. A series of furnitures, including an old lace clock was designed. However, unlike Bantjes’ design where the hands where laces, the 2013 old lace inspired clock used lace for the shell of the clock. Yganko is an artist that designed the red rose petal typography (http://www.shutterstock.com/portfolio/search.mhtml?submitter=788 122&searchterm=rose%20forming%20petals%20texture). He may had been inspired by Bantjes’ I Want it All, peony letter design which was also made of flowers.

Inspiration/Interests

Something that inspired me was this knitted caterpillar. Stuff animals were always my favorite. My bed is full of stuff animals. I remember my first time learning how to knit was when I was in elementary school and I was my grandma knitting. Thinking that it was cool to move sticks and yarns around to make a scarf, I asked my grandma to teach my how to knit. I even made my aunt buy my yarn and knitting needles. However, I stopped without even completing one scarf because it bored me. However, when I was in 5th grade, I was helping out in my school office and a lady here was knitting. I asked her what she was making and she said a stuff caterpillar. After that, I really wanted to make my own knitted stuff animal. I dropped it until I came across a knitting video on youtube during middle school. After watching it, I chose to start knitting again. I bought many yarn and made many scarves for my friends. I made other little projects such as a heart pillow and a little baggy. I even had the owner of a yarn store teach me how to knit different kinds of yarn and she taught me how to crochet. Now, my goal is to knit a stuffed animal and to crochet which I haven't even started.

Well here are some things I made...

LETTER PROJECT REFLECTION

Question 1:
The design I chose as actually not part of my thumbnail sketches. I somewhat combined two of my ideas from the thumbnail into one. Originally, my top favorite ones was the siren with the music notes and the other was the valentines card. After making the valentines card on a the initial draft, I was hesitant with the siren because I know that I am not capable of drawing it. Thus, I combined a rose design with the siren one.   I think that the thumbnail sketches really helped me because I already had many ideas to pick from and I was able to combine ideas. During the coloring, I used chalk pastel for my whole project. I used a q-tip to spread the color. After that, I used put a lot of purple chalk pastel powder on my project and used a tissue to color in the blank spaces.

Question 2:
When I first started my thumbnail sketches, I didn't really have a concept in mind. However, from brainstorming, one concept was valentines so I chose the love concept. That was originally when I choose the valentines cards design. And since I chose not to do the siren and music notes design, I morphed two into one and made the rose and pedals design. Using the rose design, I was planning to use a heart break concept. After trying multiple times to get a blood red color, which I failed to, I changed the concept but stayed with the same design. I instead choose the love warming design. I tried to represent the concept why using warm pink colors. For the rose, I chose a nice red color stead of blood red to symbolize the love. For the background, I mixed a orange pink color with purple to express the warm feeling of love.

Question 3:
The most challenging aspect for my was the background. I wanted to blend two colors together so it won't be too dull. I tried using white and bright pink but that didn't have a warming mood. Then i tried the white and purple which I didn't think was a nice color compared to the red of the. In the end, I chose to use the purple and orangish pink.

Question 4:
I don't really think that I am satisfied with my final project. I wanted to blend the purple with the pink more. I do not like how the purple stands out a lot compared to the orange pink in the back.

Question 5:
If I can change it, I would blend the colors on a separate sheet of paper then use the tissue to get the mixed color then wipe it onto my project instead of wiping the purple on top after.

And is is my final :D
