Logo Reflection

What is your most challenging aspect of creating your logo design? How did you overcome the challenge?
The hardest for me was the color of my logo because I wanted my logo to look simple and serious since it is SGE. I wanted to use red and black since that was the school color but it did not look pretty to me. So I have Ms. Lee help me. She helped me choose a different shade of red and had the letters white. The building was a mixture of black and red. However the words were a bit small so it make it legible from afar, we changed the building back to the original color, which is a light pink or beige color and SGE in the center in black.

What was most successful aspect of your logo design?
The most successful aspect to me was the building in the center because I wanted to use the fact that SGE had five branches so I made five columns for the building since it was the most important part of a structure.

February Break

During February break, I went with my friends to have sushi for lunch in Brooklyn. Since it was president's day, it is was crowded and we had to wait for a good 45 minutes. After that, we ate a lot to the point where we were shoving food at each other. > - < After that, I went home. February break was also Chinese New Year so I spent Thursday at my grandma's place and Friday at my mom's aunt's place. I got a lot of red envelopes aka money. *^* On Saturday, I went to my SAT prep class. I was going to head over to my volunteer place after I have lunch at home with my mom but my mom told me that she wanted a new bag and my aunt wanted one as well so she made me take off and go buy the bag with my aunt at 57th st. My mom was very picky so when I showed her a bag through message, she wanted that one but the store did not have it. My mom did not want any other bag so my aunt and I had to walk 7 streets down 5the ave IN THE SNOW to a department store to buy my mom her bag. My aunt saw a bag that she wanted but it was too expensive so she didn't buy it. But I saw a bag that I liked and my aunt saw a dress so we got that for ourselves. The next day was the Chinese New Year parade and I had dim sum with my family. I was going to walk in the parade with my aunt but my cousins, sister and my brother's family decided to join us. Lucky it was warm so we did not freeze to death. After that, we went back to my grandma's place and we hung out there until dinner time.

This is a picture of my nephews during the parade :D

Metropolitan Museum of Art: The Great Sirens

a. Where is this art? What kind of artwork were around this piece?
This piece of art was in the modern and contemporary art exhibit. There were other art work around it such as artwork from O'Keeffe. There was also another piece of art called Tomorrow is Never that was very sad to me
b. What about this piece draws your attention? Does it remind you of something else?
This painting caught my attention because it was very large and I was actually looking at a painting beside it but it was much smaller so the size was the first thing that I noticed. And then, I saw that there were a bunch of naked ladies but what caught my attention the most was not that they were naked but because the expression they had. None of the women looked happy but they had this dazed look on their face. The ladies sitting looked calm, but it was an unsettling calm.
c. What do you know about the artwork or artist?
This was the first time that I've seen that artwork and I never heard of the artist before. I didn't even know that this art was about sirens until I read the note beside it. That was when I realized that there were sirens in the background on the beach, and they looked like they were praying. That was also when I saw that one man in the painting. This painting was done by artist Paul Delvaux and he was a surrealist. This is his biggest painting.

Finding Type

The STOP is san serif. It is used on the school computers trying to tell people do not destroy it because it is property of the department of education. I find it appropriate for its purpose because the message is simple and it is communicates the message very well.

The UNITED STATES POSTAL SERVICE is san serif and a little bit of decorative because of the way the letter A is. This typeface was printed on the United States Postal Service cars. It is used to help identify the car and also advertise to the people. The typeface is use is appropriate for its purpose because for someone walking on the street, it is very easy to read but with the uniqueness of the letter A is makes the name special.
The word RECYCLING is san serif and it is printed on the recycling trash can. This typeface is appropriate for its purpose because the message is simple and within the word. When someone is in a rush, no one is going to spend time to analyze the word is it was all fancy and difficult to read so making it simple can help communicate the message better.
GOING TO THE AIR? is simple san serif and it is the advertisement for the car service. This advertisement is placed on the phone booth. This type is appropriate for its purpose because no one really stops on the street to read an advertisement. Being that is is on the street, it needs to be simple so the audience can receive the message in a matter of seconds.

This typeface is slab serif and modern. It is printed onto the school laptops to help identify the difference from other people's personal laptops. The typeface is appropriate for its purpose because it does not need to be simple because people can take their time when looking at these worlds. Also it added a sense of importance when the typeface is not too simple but still easy to read.

REVOLUTION EYES is a phrase in front of a glasses store. The typeface is decorative and slab serif. It is appropriate for its purpose because it is a glasses store so the typeface should be interesting to the eye but also easy to read.

SGE: Student Government and Ethics Logo Research

SGE is composed of a total of five branches; Student Store Board, Student Trustee Committee, Environmental Committee, Student Life Committee and Fairness & Wellness Committee. There is a total of 20 - 30 members that serve for two year terms. There are no specific positions in each committee and everyone is equal. The purpose of SGE is to allow the students to have a voice in their school community and organize different events and impose different rules to make the school community better.

Each committee has a different goal. The Environmental Committee is to help make the school eco-clean and green. Fairness and Wellness Committee is meant to protect the student's rights and the honor code. The purpose of the Student Life Committee is to organize events around the school. The School Store Board is the management branch of SGE that helps run the school store. The Student Trustee Committee gives advice with hiring teachers and input opinions on usage of money, raising money, and bring awareness to the school.

To gather more information, I asked a member of the Environmental committee to help me answer some questions. The member told me that the SGE is about representing the student body and its purpose is to allow students to have a voice in the school. Our principle McEvoy is the representation of the club. The theme of SGE is law. There are students from all grades and everyone is very nice to each other. Something that the member enjoys a lot about the club is the free food. Also, she likes how it allows the students to have a voice. Her idea for the logo would to have a logo that represents all five branches and try to show that through the logo.
